My work looks at ideas surrounding the definitions of home and with it the notions of belonging and displacement.  What do you call a home?  Are you tied to your birthplace by a metaphorical umbilical cord?  When and how do you feel you belong?

The various cultural backdrops I have personally experienced together with the everyday situations and findings, particularly that of the domestic environment and the role I play as the mother in constructing the notion of home, are some of the areas where I find inspirations in making my art works.

In addition to painting, I use a range of materials and techniques to create my art pieces.  I have produced performances as well as setting up a pseudo organisation called GMI (Good Mothers Institute) to question the meaning of 'good' mothering.  I also make use of cooking, baking, sewing and knitting, activities that are generally associated with female and domesticity, to reflect on the ideas of home.

Noriko was born in Japan but spent her childhood years in America and most of her adult life in England.  She now lives in Singapore with her family.
